Book or E-Book?

Which do you prefer?

It's strange to think, when I first started writing In The Image of Man, no one would have asked this question. The first Kindle e-reader came out in 2007 and the iPad in 2010. As hard as it is to believe, I began writing Image in 2007. Don't worry, it didn't take me seven years to write the book. In fact, I completed the first draft later that year. However, it wasn't until a year later that I discovered just how much I had to learn about the craft. The next book, which I am currently writing, will NOT take another seven years.

Anyway, I've had some fun discussions lately around the topic. Do you prefer e-books or physical books? I always thought I preferred physical books. I love the tactile feedback and the awareness of just how far I've read. However, the first time I took my Kindle on vacation with me, I was hooked. One device or several books, which would your prefer to carry around?

Well either way you like it, they're both available. Head on over to Amazon or CreateSpace and pick up your copy. But first, let me know which you prefer.

Exciting Event Number Two

Okay, yesterday I told you that two exciting events occurred last evening. Anyway, as I prepared to take my daughter to the Daddy-Daughter banquet, a knock on the door announced an arrival. As you can see in this picture, my daughter is holding a very special item. My proof copy of In The Image of Man arrived. For those of you who don't know, like me a few weeks ago, this means that I'm only a click away from making my book available as a hardcopy. This assumes that everything looks good with the proof. I still need to give the proof a thorough review, but so far I really like what I see.

However, before you run out to the website to place your order, there is one minor issue. This morning, I received an email from the ISBN Agency. They provide the fancy black and white barcode number on all books that identify the book. Seems they gave me an incorrect number. So, now I have to wait for them to issue me a new number before I can make the book available.

Fear not though, the hardcopy of the book is only days away!

'Till next time!

Two Exciting Happenings Tonight

So, tonight two very exciting things happened. The first and most important--I had the opportunity to take my oldest daughter to the Daddy-Daughter Banquet put on by WCSG. This was the sixth year we attended. It's amazing to see what a lovely young woman she has become. Gone are the awkward is-anyone-going-to-say-something moments. Now it's like taking a good friend.

We had a great time! Love & The Outcome provided the entertainment this year. What a great time of worship and fellowship with so many great people. A time to meet old friends and make new ones. Without a doubt, the most impressive part of the evening was watching Jodi sing, play the keyboard, and play the drum, all at the same time. Very impressive.

As for the second exciting occurrence of the evening, well you'll just have to wait for tomorrow's post. But, I will give you a hint. This one has to do with my writing.

'Till then.

Guatemala

Today, I saw some pictures on Facebook posted by friends of ours on a mission trip to Guatemala. It brings back incredible memories of my own trip to Guatemala. This special country provides some extreme contrasts. From georgous waterfalls, lakes, and volcanoes, to widows sleeping on dirt floors, malnourished children, and men--that should be stepping up and providing--sitting on the street drunk out of their mind.

It was a special opprtunity to serve with great friends from Engedi Church, building houses for the widows, serving at feeding programs, and seeing giant smiles on so many faces (like the one on the little guy in this picture sitting on my shoulders). In fact, there are portions of Image that I wrote while on this trip.

If you've never taken the opportunity to go on a mission trip to help those with the greatest needs, I'd highly encourage you to give it some serious thought. Browse through our website and you'll see that the primary purpose of our efforts here at Hearts of Compassion Publishing is to help as many in need as possible.

'Till next time.

I've been a husband for 28 years and am the father of five children, three boys and two girls, ages 24 and under.

My vocational years have been an eclectic mix of software developer, electrical and manufacturing engineer, manager, and even five years as a worship pastor. So, I guess it only stands to reason that my aspirations as an author are equally unique. As an author it is my desire to challenge one's mind with what ifs, one's heart with if only, and one's sense of justice with if not me.
